About the Consultants

Who are we?

Laurýn Minter (she/her/ella) is a political scientist with an expertise in Minority Politics and Behavior, Legislative Behavior, and Public Policy. She most recently worked as Director of the Bureau of Youth Services and Recreation Programs for the City of Rochester and was a visiting scholar at SUNY Brockport. Laurýn earned a Ph.D. from the University of New Orleans. She also possesses a Master’s degree from Tulane University in Latin American Studies and a Bachelor’s of Science in Political Science and Spanish from Fisk University. At Fisk, Dr. Laurýn was inducted into the Delta chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  Her teaching and research specializations are in African American and Latino Politics, with an additional expertise in Latin American and Caribbean Identity Politics.

Miranda Jackson (she/her/hers) is an educator and student advocate, from Hammond, Louisiana. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Mathematics from Southern University A & M College (Baton Rouge, Louisiana). Additionally, Miranda earned a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge Campus) as well as a Master’s degree in School Counseling from Lamar University (Beaumont, Texas). She is an expert on educational equity. Miranda currently serves as a high school counselor in the Dallas, Texas metroplex.
